The Detroit Riveters are proud to announce the city’s first professional women’s ultimate team, offering high-level play to Michigan’s skilled women. The team will play a series of 4-6 games throughout the inaugural 2018 season, taking on professional teams across the country.
“We’re thrilled to be a part of this historic moment,” said Molly Barlow, one of the Riveters’ captains. “Detroit is committed to leading the gender equity movement in ultimate and pushing the boundaries for women in professional sports. We see a future with equal opportunities for all to play the highest level of ultimate, regardless of race, gender, or socioeconomic status.”
The team’s captains, ownership, and VC Ultimate, the sport’s premium uniform and apparel provider, came together to form a truly unique and forward-thinking sponsorship for the 2018 season. The Riveters will be fully outfitted by VC, in addition to having player representation in management discussions by the team’s owners, the Detroit Mechanix. Additionally, the agreement includes a paid Team Manager position to administrate the 2018 season. The Mechanix leadership also agreed to participate in a gender equity training, with plans to expand to all players across the organization.
